Article Abstract:
Several automated systems for retrieving and indexing the vast amount of information on the Internet are under development. Several of these spiders, web crawlers and robots are described including Lycos, developed at Carnegie Mellon University and Bruce Shatz's Harvest.

Theoretical physicist Paul Ginsparg has set up 9 electronic bulletin boards for physicists to share pre-published articles. More than 8000 people subscribe to one or more of the Los Alamos National Laboratory boards, and about 600 preprints are submitted each month.

Do-it-yourself supercomputers
Article Abstract:
Researchers have constructed two homemade supercomputers built of 16 Pentium processors connected by a local area network. The machines, called Hyglac and Loki, were assembled at a cost of only $60,000 each.
