Is the Universe Fractal?
Article Abstract:
The controversy over whether or not the universe has an unbounded fractal hierarchy has been highlighted in recent years by galaxy surveys that reach differing conclusions. Einstein's principle that the universe is spatially homogenous is an assumption on which the standard 'big bang' model is based. Most astrophysicists accept this model, while others argue for a fractal distribution of galaxies. Results of recent observations are discussed.
