Lophophorate phylogeny
Article Abstract:
Recent ribosomal RNA gene-sequencing analysis of the lophophorates correctly associates them with protostomes rather than deuterostomes, but the proposed new phylogeny is unsubstantiated. It does not fit with paleontological data, and assignment of a new taxonomic category, 'Lophotrochozoa,' is premature.

Biology recapitulates phylogeny
Article Abstract:
The study of phylogeny resurged in recent decades when it was realized that all biology studies have an evolutionary context. Applications of phylogenies in metabolic regulation and coevolution studies and new statistical tests of phylogenetic hypotheses are discussed.

Assessing molecular phylogenes
Article Abstract:
A study that named maximum parsimony as the best of several numerical-simulation methods for finding an accurate molecular phylogeny is criticized. Maximum likelihood and neighbor joining are proposed as better methods. A reply is included.
