Lumpy chipmunks
Article Abstract:
Swellings on the bodies of chipmunks are often caused by a host specific botfly, Cuterebra emasculator. The larva of the fly burrows into the chipmunk's skin where it remains for ten weeks. It then overwinters as a pupa in the ground before emerging as an adult in the spring.

Hummingbirds in the shower
Article Abstract:
Hummingbirds appear to prefer showers over baths, as they have been observed flying through water spray from hoses. Their southward migration is thought to be triggered by changes in day length rather than the availability of food in gardens.
