Measurement of dry deposition and air - water exchange of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with the water surface sampler
Article Abstract:
Researchers created a device for detecting the deposition of dry particulate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The device was used to test deposition rates in Chicago, IL. in 1996. With such a device, one could then more accurately track such things as pollution transferred from air to water. A key element of the device is a greased, flat panel water surface plate, with a circulatory water system to keep the plate wet while removing particles for later analysis. Using regression analysis shows the device works effectively to collect air-borne particulates.

Characteristics and environmental significance of colloids in landfill leachate
Article Abstract:
A study of leachate samples from a municipal site has investigated the colloid-associated transport of pollutants. Laboratory experiments suggested association of pollutants with humic acids and colloids enhanced subsurface movement. The study aimed to separate and describe the colloids in landfill leachate, identify the pollutants and determine environmental implications. Results suggested pollution and colloid associations affected landfill treatment processes and identified colloids as potential carriers of contamination to aquifers.

Dry deposition of trace elements to Lake Michigan: a hybrid-receptor deposition modeling approach
Article Abstract:
The hybrid-receptor deposition modeling technique used for evaluating the deposition of trace elements into Lake Michigan during the Lake Michigan Urban Air Toxic Study is demonstrated. It is shown that the model's predictions are in good agreement with direct measurements of the dry deposition flux and ambient concentrations of trace elements at both land-based and over-water sites.
