New rules push researchers closer to biotech industry

The government of India has formulated new guidelines to ensure that its biotechnology investment will produce profitable products. The Dept of Biotechnology will restrict funding to world-class projects that involve industry collaboration and will produce results that can be patented.

Monsoon shrinks with aerosol models
Article Abstract:
A new computer climate model predicts that monsoon rains will lessen over India and China in the 21st century, due to a cooling effect of sulfur-based atmospheric aerosols in combination with the warming effect of greenhouse gases. Previous models had not factored in sulfur compounds.

Turtle project can't outrun bureaucracy
Article Abstract:
Researchers have abandoned a project to use transmitters attached to Olive ridley sea turtles to monitor their movements. The Indian government delayed approval of the program because of concerns that the transmitters would affect a missile testing site.
