Competing groups of international companies agreed in late 1995 to pool the best features of their individual approaches to develop the digital versatile disc (DVD) format. The result is a disc that can store 14 times more information than can current CDs. Additional advantages are discussed.

Shrimp aquaculture and the environment

Environmentalists are adopting alternative shrimp farming methods in an effort to minimize its harmful effects to the environment. Studies showed that shrimp aquaculture does not only deteriorate the quality of water in ponds but also contribute to degradation of mangrove forests.
