Article Abstract:
Scientific activity is expanding in Latin American countries as the region's economy improves and as individual governments acknowledge the link between scientific productivity and industrial and economic development. A brief history of science and technology in Latin American is provided.

Future of science in Latin America
Article Abstract:
Latin American governments must come to appreciate the importance of basic science to economic and social development if the region's contribution to science is to expand. Major changes in governmental attitudes and practices will be necessary to promote Latin American research efforts.

There is direct genetic evidence that recurrent migrations and inbreeding among prehistoric human populations of different continents occurred. A pattern of continental distributions of geographical and mitochondrial DNA data could have resulted from recurrent gene flow.
