Research by entomologist Douglas Tallamy revealed the ineffectivity of 'bug zappers' in killing biting flies and mosquitoes. A survey of six bug zappers showed that of the total 13,789 dead insects, female mosquitoes numbered only 18 while biting flies numbered only 13.
