Stability of retaining walls against overturning
Article Abstract:
A study on the stability of retaining walls against overturning is evaluated. The study found that retaining walls should be analyzed using the position of the resultant force on the base since this is not affected by the arbitrarily assumed surface. The assumed thrust surface also has no impact on the safety factors against sliding and bearing capacity. However, it is argued that two equations presented in the study can be used to compute for the factor of safety against sliding. It is also shown that the factor of safety against bearing capacity is affected by the resultant force location.

Pullout performance of inclined helical screw anchors in sand
Article Abstract:
An evaluation is made on methods of anchor installation and pullout capacity, focusing on rupture surface conditions. Topics include sliding soil, sand depression, pitch per revolution, and complications presented by bullet-shaped anchor extensions.
