Subsumed by science?
Article Abstract:
Engineers feel slighted whenever the engineering discipline is subsumed under science. According to the 'subsumption thesis,' the most significant aspects of technology have been subsumed under the discipline of science, implying that science is a larger and more important topic than engineering. In defense of engineering, the discipline has been an established craft long before modern science was born. Although the application of scientific theory is vital in the discipline, intuition, practical experience and artistic sensibility are also significant. Some suggest that the problem of inequality between engineering and science could be resolved by focusing on the ways in which science and technology are connected and similar.

From here to eternity
Article Abstract:
Digital technology can theoretically preserve forever information carried by different varieties of media such as photos and films. The technology involves the transformation of images and information into an arrangement of binary codes that are embedded in digital storage media, most popular of which are compact disks. Digitization allows an exact copy to be made from the original, ensuring the preservation of information in its true form, even if digital storage media do not last indefinitely.

Finding common ground
Article Abstract:
Politics and engineering are very different fields. Politics often involve broken promises while the practice of engineering is concerned with professionalism. Both fields, however, employ different degrees of compromise. Politicians try to balance political and economic realities with the demands of the voting public. Engineers also have to put up with demands concerning plant locations and environmental restrictions and, at the same time, provide high-quality and affordable products.
