The big clean up
Article Abstract:
Many engineering companies continue to use solvents that damage the ozone layer, particulalry 1,1,1 trichloroethane which did not come into the Montreal Protocol until later than CFC 113 used in the electronics industry. The engineering industry does not have many available options, and the most popular alternative method of cleaning so far is the use of oxygenated hydrocarbons. They have low toxicity and some can be used with existing equipment. Other options are trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene which do not damage the ozone layer but are extremely toxic.

Engineering a new job
Article Abstract:
Engineers encounter specific problems when made redundant, with those in their 40s and 50s finding their skills regarded as obsolete, and those who have spent all their time with one company, considerd unambitious. Coutts, career consultant, recommends that CVs should focus on areas of skill in engineering and emphasis particular projects. Engineers are often able to secure lucrative consultancy contracts, and as many engineering companies have shed experienced staff, consultants are likely to be in demand when the recession ends.
