The science of persuasion
Article Abstract:
The scientific study of persuasion and social influence accelerated during World War II, with propaganda providing an ideal control mechanism for researchers. Characteristics of persuasion, such as consistency, authority, reciprocation and social validation are examined in turn. The use of persuasion psychology by retailers is analyzed, and tools for resisting influences toward purchasing are presented.

Visual centers in the brain are stated to have a built-in supposition that a single light source illuminates the entire image, which makes sense. Perception is partly a matter of using certain assumptions about the world to resolve such ambiguities.
