Why some fishes are hotheads

Animal physiologist Barbara Block and her team have found evidence indicating that fishes evolved endothermy as they expanded their ranges into habitats of varying temperatures. The finding contradicts the notion that endothermy evolves as a by-product of a high metabolism.

Animal regulations overturned

Animal rights activists won a victory against the USDA in federal court that mandates new and more costly standards of animal care in research facilities. If the ruling is upheld, research costs that are already high could increase even further.
