Technology opportunities analysis
Article Abstract:
The Technology Opportunities Analysis (TOA) is a viable method for securing information on emerging technologies from major public electronic databases. Using monitoring and bibliometrics, the approach utilizes new computer programs in generating secondary analyses of database searches on selected topics. The TOA can perform such functions as identifying component technologies and their relations, the developers of these technologies and their national or international location, shifts in technological focus and the strengths and weaknesses of emerging technologies.

Article Abstract:
Technological forecasting in the information age allows a practitioner to move from mere extrapolation to a more accurate monitoring of existing technology to predict future trends. The availability of enriched information resources and such tools as the Internet should be used in the generation of contextually rich technology maps that clearly describes the possible jumps in technology. The present tools for technology forecasting should be updated with information technology tools in order to predict truly novel trends.
