The mentoring information exchange: when do mentors seek information from their proteges?
Article Abstract:
Informational outcomes linked with being a mentor, viewing the protege as an information source and vice-versa are studied. Survey data was collected from 161 mentors and 140 proteges across 17 organizations. Perceived appropriateness of mentor information seeking, perceived protege competence, vocational mentoring functions and protege influence were significant contributors to mentor information seeking among the mentor sample as revealed by hierarchical regression analyses. For the protege sample, hierarchical distance and mentor self-monitoring were vital predictors.
