Alcohol consumption in university students: the role of reasons for drinking, coping strategies, expectancies, and personality traits
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine whether reasons for drinking, coping strategies, alcohol expectancies and personality traits predict binge drinking and alcohol consumption levels among college students. Escape drinking was found to be the only positive direct predictor of binge drinking. Also, social drinking predicted alcohol consumption indicating an indirect influence on binge drinking. These findings provide support for the social learning perspective of alcohol abuse and offer insight into the factors contributing to risky alcohol consumption pattern development.

Gender differences in the effect of job stressors on alcohol consumption
Article Abstract:
Gender differences and the impact of job stressors on alcohol consumption were investigated based on a Toronto sample of 994 employed men and women. Results suggest that men and women in complex jobs consume less alcohol than those in less complex jobs. Job demands were found to have not effect on alcohol consumption in men, but lead to an increase in women's drinking.
