Alcoholism and emotional reactivity: more heterogeneous film-induced emotional response in newly detoxified alcoholics compared to controls - a preliminary study
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to investigate whether detoxified alcoholics show different emotional responses as compared to controls. Emotions were induced using film excerpts in 14 newly detoxified alcoholics and matched controls in a substandardized laboratory setting. Results show that depression and cognitive deterioration were controlled. Alcoholics were found to display greater emotional variability. They also displayed fewer or no physiological arousal changes. The differences observed in subjective emotional responses were not accounted for by depression or cognitive deterioration.

Cognitive performance and liver function among recently abstinent alcohol abusers
Article Abstract:
Cognitive performance and liver function among 85 abstinent alcohol-dependent persons were assessed by means of a neuropsychological examination and tests of liver function. Suggestions reveal that some of the enduring subtle cognitive impairments seen in sober alcohol-dependent persons might be a result of sub clinical liver dysfunction.

Performance of recently detoxified patients with alcoholism on a neuropsychological screening test
Article Abstract:
Results point out that age and medical comorbidity influence the performance of alcohol disorder patients as revealed in a neuropsychological screening. Data indicate deficiency in abstraction, comprehension, and memory, suggesing cognitive impairment, which has to be considered before initiating cognitive-behavioral treatments.
