Are psychosocial factors related to smoking in grade-6 students?
Article Abstract:
A study involving 1552 grade-six students from 107 schools in Ontario, Canada is used to determine the effects of smoking on the psychosocial makeup of students. It was found that habitual smokers were likely to have spending money, had more absences, considered themselves as average and below-average students, and tended to spend more time with friends who are also likely to be smokers. It was also found that boys are more prone to smoking compared to girls.

Age at smoking onset and its effect on smoking cessation
Article Abstract:
The link between smoking cessation and age at which a person starts smoking was examined using data from a survey of neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Age at initiation of smoking was an important factor for continuation of smoking, and the findings indicate that prevention programs should be aimed at children below 16 years of age.
