Conceptualizing small towns as urban places:L the process of downtown redevelopment in Galena, Illinois
Article Abstract:
Issues are discussed regarding the development of small-town central business areas into visitor-oriented attractions. The downtown redevelopment of Galena, ILL shows that the key characteristics of this process are true in both the big city and the small town. Municipalities off all sizes use the similar economic tools, enabling legislation and other mechanisms.

"That's the only place where you can hang out": urban young people and the space of the mall
Article Abstract:
Issues are discussed regarding the shopping mall as a place where poor, inner-city teenagers conduct their lives. Perceptions of neighborhood violence and resource availability affect the choice of this space. The mall also gives them a sense of possibility and choice which they cannot find in other parts of their environment.
