Correlates of comorbid PTSD and drinking problems among sexual assault survivors
Article Abstract:
A large and diverse sample of community-residing women who had gone through adult sexual assault was surveyed for their likelihood of developing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and drinking problems. It was found that survivors who were lesser qualified, had histories of other traumas, blamed the assault due to their character, felt drinking could reduce stress, drank to cope with the assault's effects and received negatively social reactions were more likely to have comorbid PTSD and drinking problems.
