Culturally competent practice with elderly Latinos
Article Abstract:
Both social work education and social work practice recognize the importance of cultural diversity in understanding human behavior in a social-environmental context. Thus, a culturally competent social work practice is one where the differences of all people of color, especially those who experienced prejudice of any form, are ably recognized. In the delivery of services to Latino elders, social workers must not only understand the issues confronting Latino elders as they must also possess a theoretical foundation in gerontological work and be well-versed with the principles of culturally competent social work practice.
