Differences in the process of self-employment among whites, blacks and Asians: the case of scientists and engineers
Article Abstract:
The impact of race, nativity and recency of arrival on the process of self-employment among white, black and Asian scientists and engineers is examined, using data from the 'Surveys of the Natural and Social Scientists and Engineers.' Results show that employed native-born Asians and blacks are less likely than native-born whites to be self-employed. White immigrants after 1965, however, exhibit the opposite trend. White immigrants after 1965 are more likely to remain self-employed than native-born whites, while blacks have the least tendency to remain self-employed.
