Earning and obtaining reinforcers under concurrent interval scheduling

Article Abstract:

Two experiments were conducted to examine the separate effects of earning reinforcers and of obtaining reinforcers on preference with the use of concurrent interval schedules composed of two pairs of stay and switch schedule. In both the experiments, the generalized matching law, that are based on rates of obtaining reinforcers, described responding only when rates of earning reinforcers were the same at each alternative.

On the classic and modern theories of matching

Article Abstract:

Classic matching theory is logically inconsistent with known experimental findings, and experiments show that its central constant-k assumption is not tenable. The modern theory is logically consistent with known experimental findings, it predicts the fact and details of the violation of the classic theory's constant-K assumption, and it accurately describes at least some data that are consistent with the classic theory.

Associative symmetry in the pigeon after successive matching-to-sample training

Article Abstract:

A study on the clear case of associative symmetry in the pigeon was conducted for the first time. The results suggested that the identity matching might have to be learned concurrently with arbitrary matching from the outset of training for symmetry to emerge.
