Evolution of encounter group methods in therapeutic communities for substance abusers
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to investigate whether the emergence of a new encounter culture in drug-free Therapeutic Communities (TC) can be changed from harsh confrontation to dialogue and discussion. The results indicated that in encounter groups the focused has moved from mutual confrontation toward balanced and respectful dialogue.

"Who gets in?": recruitment and screening processes of outpatient substance abuse trials
Article Abstract:
A survey was conducted to evaluate the recruitment methods and the initial screening processes used in outpatient treatment clinical trails for cocaine and alcohol nicotine treatment. Some of the implications of these findings, and recommendations for developing program recruitment and screening methods are described.

Achieving abstinence by treating depression in the presence of substance-use disorders
Article Abstract:
Meta analysis method was used for conducting trials of antidepressants in relation to comorbidities of drug or alcohol dependence and mood disorders in the presence or absence of psychosocial treatment. Antidepressant medication and psychotherapy may help in the treatment of substance dependent depressed patients.
