Exploring rural community agency differences in Ireland and Pennsylvania
Article Abstract:
The role of community agency in contributing to local well-being in Ireland and America is explored through a comparative study and evaluated through the use of a multiple method framework based on extensive key informant interviews, focus groups, and analysis of household survey data. Findings show that community agency is best explained by social interaction, followed by community attachment, social ties/networks, and sociodemographics.

Regulated freedoms: the market and the state, agriculture and the environment
Article Abstract:
It is argued that a free market system is theoretically impossible to produce in a state society, as regulations preventing interference nevertheless require the state to enforce them. A discussion follows on Isaiah Berlin's concepts of positive freedom, or to have agency, and negative freedom, or an absence of agency.
