Family policy wonderland
Article Abstract:
Margrit Eichler discusses in her book 'Family Shifts: Families, Policies, and Gender Equality,' assumptions that governments can use as basis for developing fair family policies. The author presents nine types of fatherhood and 16 types of motherhood to argue that traditional legal and administrative models of family care are not acceptable. She also comments on the increasingly peculiar public and academic debates about family policy.

Predicting the sharing of household labor: are parenting and housework distinct?
Article Abstract:
A study of the conditions in which husbands share in the performance of household tasks conventionally held by wives has been undertaken. Results show that husbands share only 21% of the time devoted to housework although they contribute more time for the care of their children. These findings confirm that more men are engaging in household work and child care as a resultof the wife's increased participation in the labor force.

Employment status of married women in Hong Kong
Article Abstract:
Analysis of 1986 census data in Hong Kong shows that the employment of married women in Hong Kong is influenced by household responsibilities. Significantly, women with more household responsibilities opt for jobs with lower financial returns, but which give greater flexibility. The presence of househelp or female kin in the residence provides the desired balance for wage-earning or self-employed wives.
