Future directions in preventing child abuse
Article Abstract:
People with the proper training and experience are the most important factor in preventing child abuse. Effective control measures arise from the skills and knowledge of these people. Secondary to them are the multidiscplinary teams that are used in dealing with the various forms of child abuse. These teams can deal with the problem adequately since it is too overwhelming for a single organization or individual. Another important element in preventing child abuse is a specific policy on child protection since the US does not have a law that deals directly with child abuse.

The media and public awareness of child abuse and neglect: it's time for a change
Article Abstract:
The media's sensationalized treatment of child abuse has done nothing except capture public attention, which fades out after a few weeks. The US Advisory Board on Child Abuse released several reports with recommendations on how the media can handle the complex issue regarding child abuse. However, these were largely ignored and the issue remains subjected to lipservice. The best strategy for the professional working on child abuse to take is to bring a media person to lunch and help her or him see how reporting can help in a more positive way.

Commentary: the review of child maltreatment fatalities: snatching victory from the jaws of defeat
Article Abstract:
Studies on the death of children from abuse do not merely discuss the manners of their deaths but suggest different ways of examining the death cases. The researches done by Kasim et al. and Hicks et al. show that subdural hemorrhage as a result of blunt trauma or violent shaking is the major cause of children's deaths. These studies could help in developing preventive measures that would lessen the number of children dying from abuse.
