Gentrification, socioeconomic change, and the geography of displacement
Article Abstract:
Displacement of households due to continuing gentrification of inner London, England, is related to the socioeconomic status of the migrants. Gentrification results in an increase in rent for inner city housing. The pattern of displacement is marked by long-distance movement of affluent households and short-distance displacement of low-status households due to the narrowing of the rent gap between inner city boroughs and uptown areas. Preference of the low-status households to move within the inner city boroughs is a result of their dependence on local goods, services, and contacts.

Gentrification, reinvestment, and displacement in Baltimore
Article Abstract:
A study on the gentrification of the city of Baltimore, MD, revealed displacement of disadvantaged households residing in the inner cities. Reinvestment and rehabilitation were observed to alter the economic and racial characteristics of the area such that there was a decline in the white population. However, in contrast to predictions, the population of black minorities neither increased nor declined as a result of gentrification.

Modeling the context and contingency of gentrification
Article Abstract:
Gentrification, or housing rehabilitation, has significant impacts on the socioeconomic landscape in which it is deployed. Gentrification's reinvestment factor, coupled with the area's pre-existing relation to suburbanization, can greatly alter the urban status gradient. The efficacy of the process can be enhanced through further research and compatibility to individualized contexts.
