Insights from research on cross-cultural validation of health-related questionnaires: the role of bilingual project workers and lay participants
Article Abstract:
Two studies to assess the adequacy of questionnaire translations from English into four ethnic minority languages by bilingual project workers who carried out interviews with lay communities and provided feed back results in English to the researchers were examined. It was seen that in cases of mediation by bilingual project workers, researchers should be aware of the influence of social and contextual factors when carrying out research with ethnic minority participants.
