Metacognition and substance use
Article Abstract:
Metacognition in adults has received little attention, but it may have relevance in cognitive analyses of substance abuse and dependence. The metacognitive characteristics of treatment-seeking substance abusers were investigated, taking into account the metacognitive effects of substance abuse and metacognitive consequences of refraining from substance abuse. Metacognitive beliefs may be a significant barrier to the treatment of alcohol and drug misuse.

Sexual compulsivity and substance use in HIV-Seropositive men who have sex with men: Prevalance and predictors of high-risk behaviors
Article Abstract:
A minority of men testing seropositive for HIV continue to engage in transmission risk behavior. A study looked at the role of sexual compulsivity as a contributing factor to high-risk sexual behaviour in HIV seropositive men, who have sex with men. It is indicated that the link between sexual compulsivity and high-risk sexual behavior was partly mediated by both personal cocaine use and partner cocaine use together with sexual activity.
