On dirty hands and definitions: a rejoinder
Article Abstract:
A sense of balance must be maintained when formulating criminal justice policy, specially towards domestic violence. Although police have the right to exercise the force necessary to handle and solve a violent situation, they should first be aware of the amount of force to be used and its ramifications. Although social science tends to adopt a seemingly hands-off attitude towards policing policy, its actual aim is to find nonviolent alternatives to policing situations.

Response to Mastrofski and Uchida
Article Abstract:
Policemen have been known to indulge in either brutality or unnecessary force. The former refers to a conscious, mischievous act that the offender attempts to hide, while the latter refers to a mistaken action meant to do good. A revamp in the police authority hierarchy and training is recommended so that a problem-solving, no-arrest attitude is adopted by the police force instead. The formation of a police cadet corps would further boost the police force's image.

Transforming the police
Article Abstract:
The police profession has been the constant target of reform since the end of the Second World War. Observers note that changes in police structure have been too piecemeal and slow. Police are often seen as disrespectful of authority and the very community they serve. It is proposed that better selection and training guidelines be set for the police profession and non-arrest, problem-solving stategies be adopted by the police force.
