Paradoxes (and orthodoxies) of assimilation
Article Abstract:
The profound demographic transformation happening in the United States is discussed. Globalization and international migrations from Asia, Africa and the Americas are further diversifying the polyethnic composition of its population. As issues of immigration, race and ethnicity rise to the top of the policy agenda, the subject of assimilation and its serious study becomes more critical and universal.

Geopolitics, economic niches, and gendered social capital among recent caribbean immigrants in New York
Article Abstract:
The conditions of immigrants from Caribbean nations in New York City are discussed. Results show socio-economic differences between and within different nationalities. Educational backgrounds and employment experience strongly determine the success of immigrants. Further, results implied that women play am essential role in the stability and overall well-being of families in immmigrant communities.

Depression and law violation: Gendered responses to gendered stresses

A study reveals that males and females play different roles in the exposure, vulnerability and response to stress, with females reacting to stress in the form of depression, while males reacting to agentic stress through anti-social or law-violating activities. A discussion focuses on aberrations from the general trend and offers suggestions for future investigation.
