Poverty segregation in West German cities; the Americanization hypothesis and its empirical evidence
Article Abstract:
The separation of the poor in German cities is increasing as a result of cumulative division processes in a capitalist economy which led to the assumption that German cities are becoming American cities. Americanization includes the development of the inner-city poverty ghetos and their adverse implications.

The author argues in favor of a geographic perspective in analyzing transitions in post-communist urban areas. He posits that this approach takes into account environmental, historical and cultural factors that may not be addressed by a strict economics methodology.
