Predictors of neuropsychological impairment in alcoholics: antisocial versus nonantisocial subtypes
Article Abstract:
An investigation indicates that predictors of neuropsychological (NP) impairment among alcoholics with Antisocial Personality Disorder (APSD) and non-APSD significantly differ. 80% of APSD cases exhibited a number of predictors such as poor education, number of drinks per day, symptoms of Conduct Disorder and history of head injury. Non-APSD groups are predicted by learning disabilities and self-reported history of Attention Deficit Disorder. Analyses of the family history of alcoholism and diseases such as hepatic disorders can provide further clues in this direction.

Epidemiological evidence about the relationship between PTSD and alcohol abuse: the nature of the association
Article Abstract:
The relationship between alcohol abuse and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is analyzed using the Bradford Hill criteria for determining causal associations. Results show significant links between PTSD and alcoholism. However, the strength of the correlation varies among the many trauma-related disorders. Moreover, alcohol abuse could be a late rather than early manifestation of PTSD.

PTSD substance abuse comorbidity and treatment utilization
Article Abstract:
A study of 84 male and female treatment-seeking substance abusers revealed one-fourth of the subjects to be sufferers of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Women were more likely than men to have suffered physical, sexual abuse and a greater number of traumatic events, thereby accounting for their increase in the assessed sample of PTSD sufferers.
