Preventing AIDS among drug users: evaluating efficacy
Article Abstract:
Many researchers believed that drug users would be resistant to AIDS prevention behavioral change. However, studies conducted through the National Institute on Drug Abuse's Cooperative Agreement for AIDS Community-Based Outreach/Intervention Research have shown that AIDS prevention programs targeted at drug users are effective in stimulating significant behavioral changes. The results of such studies have laid the foundation for more in-depth AIDS prevention model construction.

Introduction(Drug Users As Risk Reduction Agents)
Article Abstract:
The 'street-based outreach' is a 'provider-client' model which has been adopted by the US since the 1980s for the prevention of AIDS among active injection drug users (IDUs). The response of IDUs on the outreach program has been very impressive. They have been practising many risk reduction measures. Alternatives to the provider-client model for AIDS prevention from Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, England, Italy, Spain and the US are presented.
