Psychiatric severity and behavior change in alcoholism: the relation of the transtheoretical model variables to psychiatric distress in dually diagnosed patients
Article Abstract:
There seem to be several relationships between participants' status on the TTM variables (readiness to change) and their degree of psychiatric severity, according to research undertaken among 132 outpatients diagnosed with a chronic mental illness and an alcohol abuse disorder. There is a particularly strong connection between temptation to drink and psychiatric severity, with temptation to drink rising in line with psychiatric distress. It appears that, for a dually diagnosed client, a fall in negative effect could be linked with a decreased frequency of strong temptation to drink.

Application of the Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change for obesity in Mexican American women
Article Abstract:
The Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change was applied to a sample of obese Mexican American women. Five distinct profiles of the women emerged which include precontemplation profile, discouraged profile, ambivalent profile, contemplation profile and participation profile. The associations between stages, processes and profiles of change were studied and were found to be consistent with previous research. Results showed that the model is useful in Mexican American women enrolled in weight-loss programs.

Causal relationships of processes of change and decisional balance: stage-specific models for smoking
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to determine whether the causal relationships between the mechanisms of change and decisional balance of the transtheoretical model of change are stage-specific. Structural equation modeling was utilized to evaluate cross-lagged panels. The results suggested that experiential process usage dominates decisional balance for smokers who are still in the contemplational stage. Neither behavioral process nor decisional balance was apparent for the subjects in the action stage.
