Rich rastas and communist rockers: a comparative study of the origin, diffusion and defusion of revolutionary musical codes
Article Abstract:
A nation's use of musical structure often reflects its evolving social conditions. A comparative study on the development of reggae and rock and roll, from the 80s to the 90s, shows musical reflection of social change. Reggae music has undergone a transformation from being a vehicle of anti-capitalist themes, to representing Rastafarian theories in Ethiopia and to its present use in a beer advertisement jingle. Rock and roll, which was an expression of dissent in the Soviet Union, has evolved into an important aspect of Soviet culture.

The bloody heart of rock 'n' roll: images of popular music in contemporary speculaive fiction
Article Abstract:
Horror films and rock music are often subjected to harsh criticisms because of their perceived effect on the subconscious mind. Horror imagery can be found on recordings that are also featured in the soundtracks or plots of motion pictures. Critics of rock music often point out the bad effects of such type of recordings. However, few of them can provide substantial explanation why people are enticed either by violent lyrical imagery or aggressive musical rhythms.
