Tamworth, Australia's 'country music capital': Place marketing, rurality, and resident reactions
Article Abstract:
The social constructions that have surrounded Tamworth's transition to Australia's 'country music capital' within the context debates about the politics of place marketing are discussed. The obtained result is a complex and entangled politics of national identity, gender, race and class, where meanings for place are variously interpreted and negotiated.

The Exclusive Brethren and an Australian rural community

The Exclusive Brethren fundamentalist sect developed inside the Church of England in the early 19th century and maintains groups worldwide. Groups of this sect have settled in some Australian towns, where they are sources of social tension and controversy yet have contributed to economic activity and employment.

Competitive sport and social capital in rural Australia
Article Abstract:
The links between sport and social capital in a rural region of Australia are examined with reference to the role of sport for the creation and expression of social capital. The social capital generated by sport is often fragile and could lead to social exclusion and marginality for some residents.
