The challenges of research on the global network of cities
Article Abstract:
The focus of attention of urban geographers and social scientist towards the global network of cities is due to rise in global commodity trade, foreign direct investments and global financial exchanges during the period of 1980s. The theory of global network of cities was based on the research of transportation financial institution and corporate services.

The 90s show: culture leaves the farm and hits the streets
Article Abstract:
The American cultural geography is basically defined by the studies of the rural and is focused on cataloging and mapping of artifacts and the city is seen as a place of work, production and economic relations. The economism of spatial science and Marxism could not be sustained by the urban geography and hence the culture has to be let in.

Coming of age: urban geography in the 1980s
