The impact of psychosocial resources on caregiver burden and depression: sociological variations on a gerontological theme
Article Abstract:
Two psychosocial resources approaches, the mediation/deterioration and the buffering models, were employed to explain depression symptoms among primary caregivers of geriatric outpatients. Results showed that 51% of the 110 caregivers studied are at the threshold for possible depression. These also indicate that caregiver burden and depression are significantly different outcomes of caregiving. The former is caused by chronic stressors while the latter is the consequence of acute stressors.

Durkheim's 'The Rules of Sociological Method': is it a classic?
Article Abstract:
Sociologist Emile Durkheim's 'The Rules of Sociological Method' has not been accorded the same prestige as his other works. Moreover, many researchers since its publication in 1895 have been criticizing the book for apparent inadequacies and mistakes. Despite such criticisms, the book can be considered as a classical work because it has formed the foundation from which succeeding sociologists attempted to find social meaning in all things in terms of their relationship with one another.

Must sociological theory and sociological practice be so far apart?: A polemical answer
Article Abstract:
An evaluation of the current status of American sociology reveals a significant gap between theory and practice. The teaching of sociology is largely focused on quantitative methodology and rarely does it include ethnographic and historical methods. Moreover, the kind of theory training given to sociology students is seldom made relevant to real-life situations. A good way to bring theory closer to practice would be to apply sociology to the science of engineering.
