Treating binge eating problems in primary care
Article Abstract:
At least 4% of young adult women have binge eating problems which are a common source of psychiatric morbidity. The treatment of binge eating problems is almost exclusively done in specialist settings. However, there may not be enough specialist resources to handle the numerous cases of binge eating. This necessitates the treatment of binge eating problems in the primary care setting which includes the use of antidepressant medication, brief cognitive therapy and the use of a cognitive behavioral self-help manual.

Future directions in obesity and eating disorders
Article Abstract:
Treatment approaches to obesity and eating disorders should be constantly evolving, given the complex and chronic nature of these conditions. New and cost-effective treatment concepts as well as new and broader definitions of treatment outcome and success need to be continually discovered. Some of the promising treatment approaches include focus on exercise, psychosocial therapy and pharmacotherapy. A focus on health and self-acceptance is also a valid treatment outcome.

Redefining success in eating disorders
Article Abstract:
A new approach for redefining treatment success for obesity and eating disorders is presented. It considers the need for a uniform model of eating disorders, the need to emphasize progress instead of perfection, the need to view eating disorders as chronic conditions and the need for treatment modules that suit the patient's needs. Clinicians also need to view outcome not as a definitive end-product, but as a continuous process.
