Women tennis players are hardly clay-court specialists since they are often told to learn an all-court game to be on top. Since 1987, only Steffi Graf, Monica Seles and Arantxa Vicario have won the French Open. The 1996 Open finals remains an open game for women players who can move on red surfaces.

Tennis may lose the support of its biggest market, the US, with the transfer of the ATP Tour to other sporting regions. The same is true for other tournaments, where pitting champions against low-seeded players may dilute interest in the sport.
