IDEC wrecked hours after record run

Francis Joyon a French sailor describes his record-breaking event to break the singlehanded transatlantic record by over 22 hours in his 92-foot trimaran, IDEC, which crashed into rocks off Brittany's Pointe de Penmarc'h after passing England's Lizard Point. Built in 1985 as Poulain for Olivier de Kersauson, the 'Red Giant,' as it came to be known, took part in a multitude of races under a long string of names, undergoing numerous and extensive modifications along the way.

The new Wauwuiez Centurion 45s is created by Wauquiez factory in Lille near the Belgian border in a racing version with optional rig and an 8-foot-2-inch draft or in a cruising version with a standard 4-foot-shorter rig and optional 6-foot-5-inch draft. The new cruise with a sailaway price of $348,364 features a sail area of 984.3 square feet, displacement of 23,153 lb and a standard ballast of 8,470 lb.
