Preparing a boat for arrival onshore takes a lot of skills but getting its lines ashore fast and efficiently is another matter altogether. There is a risk involved due to the fact that the line passes to the hands of a stranger on the dock. Techniques in minimizing the risks are presented.

Ellen MacArthur of England finished second in the 2000/2001 Vendee Globe sailing competition, at the age of 24. MacArthur planned for years to sail in the competition and trained with French sailors before actually competing in the race.
