A group of boating enthusiasts cruised 5,500 miles from New York to Los Angeles aboard a Sea Ray 270 Sundancer mid-cabin. In 46 days, they passed through 16 states and logged more than 3,603 miles by water and 1,989 by land. The boaters considered it their 'ultimate American cruising adventure.'

Doug and Pam Ayers made plans for cruising all the navigable waterways in the US during their retirement. Cruising the Northwest and the rivers of the Southeast during the first few years of implementing their plan taught them the advantages of being flexible.
