Unlikely journey: Albert Crews came from a small Louisiana town to become a mini-tour sensation

Crews is a middle-aged Black man with an effective cross-handed style and long 300-plus yd drives who competes and wins in mini-tours for golfers 40 and older. The left-hander is a self-taught golfer. When he broke the color bar in Louisiana in 1989 he received no cheers from the white crowd.

Klein was largely overshadowed by performers with higher profiles when she was a champion amateur golfer. Now a pro, she is interested in steady continual wins rather than instant success. Her father introduced her to golf when she was nine. At age 14 she won the California Women's Amateur.
