Indonesia
Article Abstract:
Tourism in Indonesia is a growing industry and is seen as a major economic force in the country. International tourism revenue in 1994 reached $5.4 billion and is expected to rise to some $9 billion by 1998. Visitor arrivals for 1995 are estimated at 4.3 million, against around 4 million in 1994. The majority of foreign tourists in Indonesia are from elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region, with other major sources being the U.S. and Germany. To maintain its popularity, Indonesia must continue to back the tourist industry and put more resources into areas such as health, language training and infrastructure development.
