Making a splash
Article Abstract:
Water rides, such as log-flumes, are becoming increasingly sophisticated and they are amongst the key attractions in many theme parks. Drayton Manor Park in the UK, which had to close its log flume in 1997, is replacing it with a 3 million pounds sterling wet knuckle ride built by Bear Rides of Switzerland. The Stormforce 10 ride reaches speeds of up to 40 mph and includes a 16 mt plummet. Other parks developing water rides for the 21st century include Silver Dollar City in Missouri, US, where BuzzSaw Falls has been launched as a new attraction.

Article Abstract:
The UK leisure industry has so far been a largely ineffective political force. There has been extensive political activity recently which affects leisure, but this has not always been to the advantage of the leisure industry. The industry provides valuable employment, but the government often fails to recognise its importance. It is vital that the industry takes steps to ensure that its view are made known to government on issues including deregulation.
