TiLE 97 saw a stronger presence by theme parks and the theme park conference session began with an overview of planning methodologies used to assess visitor circulation and facility sizing, by Al Shacklett, president of Operations Research Consulting Associates. Roland Mack, CEO of Europa Park, focused on the need to develop attractions that meet the expectations of visitors. Nick Winslow, president of Warner Bros International Recreation Enterprises spoke of the need for industry to seek the shared themes running through the global village.

Small world: media properties are being used to theme attractions

The Asia Pacific Theme Parks & Attractions conference was held in Singapore in August. Speakers included Gary Goddard, chair and chief executive of Landmark Entertainment Group (LEG). He spoke of the need to have the most up to date product lines to compete for people's time and money, and the expectation that studios and software companies will move into the expanding leisure market. Graham Kwan, design director for Attractions International, believes this will happen through strategic partnerships.

Article Abstract:
The fourth TiLE conference was recently held at Maastricht, where speaker Bob Rogers, chair of the BRC Imagination Arts spoke on the value of lasting technology. Rogers described the benefits of combining a successful story with technology in order to draw in a profit. Other speakers at the conference included president of Sally Corporation, Howard Kelly; vice president of entertainment for Busch Entertainment Corp, Joseph Peczi; and software and communications consultant, Neil Sandford.
